Erin Andrews had a pretty awkward moment while out trick-or-treating with her family on Halloween. The FOX NFL sideline reporter went dressed as Wendy from Peter Pan, while her son, Mack, played Captain Hook, with the whole family getting in on the fun.

Things got funny when Andrews ran into some people while walking around her California neighborhood. The 48-year-old told the whole story to co-host Charissa Thompson on their Calm Down podcast, admitting she felt embarrassed after bumping into a group of younger moms she recognized from her workout classes.

Andrews joked that she felt like an “old hag” standing next to them. Even though the other moms were nice and complimented her costume, she couldn’t help feeling completely out of place.

During the podcast, Andrews explained how the interaction unfolded. She noticed that the women looked much younger and wore stylish outfits. Their appearance made her feel even more conscious of her Wendy costume.

“I’m walking around, I look like an old hag, it was perfect for me,” Andrews told Thompson.

She then recalled seeing the women from her workout classes.

“I see these gals and they’re hot and they’re younger. They’ve got me by what, 15 years maybe? And they’re like, ‘oh my god, Wendy! You look so cute.’ And these gals are in their unitards, short skirts. And they look great. And I’m like, ‘I’m Wendy…hey guys!’”

Andrews ended the story with a joking “Womp, womp.”

Still, there was nothing wrong with her Halloween look. She embraced the occasion and enjoyed dressing up with her family. Her story also showed that even familiar neighborhood encounters can turn awkward.

The reporter also had a difficult week at work. She covered the Detroit Lions game for FOX when linebacker Jack Campbell suffered a frightening injury.

Speaking on Calm Down, Andrews explained why reporting on such moments can feel difficult.

“Like I said, I’ve jumped in an ambulance before. It’s the (expletive) part of the game. It’s the real part of the game,” she said.

Andrews also admitted that she felt uncomfortable asking the team’s public relations staff for updates. She did not want to report incorrect information or put additional pressure on Campbell’s family.

Thankfully, Campbell shared an encouraging update on Wednesday. He said he had full movement in his lower body and continued to make progress with his upper body.

For Andrews, the week brought both an awkward Halloween memory and an emotional moment on the sidelines.
