Raiders RB Ashton Jeanty Helped Off The Field After Suffering Brutal Injury At Practice — Teammates Kneel & Pray Around Him

The Las Vegas Raiders held practice Sunday ahead of Thursday’s preseason finale against the 49ers. What should have been a routine session turned into a moment nobody wanted to witness.

Running back Ashton Jeanty went down during team period, diving for a catch and landing awkwardly. 

ESPN’s Ryan McFadden reported that trainers helped Jeanty off the field, and he couldn’t put any pressure on his right leg. McFadden added that the entire Raiders team took a knee and said a prayer.

“Raiders RB Ashton Jeanty was helped off the practice field today after this,” Adam Schefter said shortly after. 

The Team’s Response Signaled Real Concern

Multiple reporters on the scene described the same sequence. Jeanty had been having a strong practice before the injury occurred during 11-on-11 drills, working as a pass-catcher on a low throw from Kirk Cousins. 

His teammates froze as he hit the ground, and the entire team gathered afterward for a moment of silence before finishing the session, according to CBS Sports. The Raiders haven’t issued an official statement on the injury.

Jeanty entered this preseason as one of the centerpieces of Las Vegas’ offense under new head coach Klint Kubiak. He’d been splitting reps with rookie Mike Washington Jr. throughout camp, and the team had already managed his workload carefully during game action, giving him just three carries in the preseason opener and sitting him entirely in the second contest.

Jeanty’s Rookie Season Set High Expectations For Year Two

Jeanty arrived in Las Vegas as the sixth overall pick in the 2025 draft after a record-setting career at Boise State, where he rushed for 2,601 yards and finished as Heisman runner-up. 

He backed that up with a strong rookie campaign, totaling 1,321 yards from scrimmage and 10 touchdowns across 17 games. He’d even made headlines before his NFL debut for paying a reported small fortune to buy his No. 2 jersey off teammate Daniel Carlson, the same number he wore throughout his college career.

If Jeanty misses extended time, Washington Jr. would likely step into the lead role. The rookie fourth-round pick has already logged 15 carries for 119 yards across two preseason games, giving Las Vegas at least some depth behind Jeanty as the team awaits further word on the injury.

The Raiders have not yet provided a timeline or diagnosis, and the severity of Jeanty’s injury remains unknown as they enter final preparations.
