Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams suffered an alarming non-contact hamstring injury during Sunday’s Week 2 game against the Minnesota Vikings. The heartbreaking incident occurred midway through the fourth quarter while Williams scrambled on a vital first-and-goal play.

He abruptly pulled up lame on the wet turf and collapsed without anyone touching him. Williams immediately began writhing in severe pain and clutched tightly at his lower right leg. Consequently, a devastating hush washed over the home crowd as team medical trainers rushed out to evaluate him.

Williams could not put any weight on his leg and required significant assistance to limp off. Furthermore, the training staff loaded the emotional franchise quarterback onto an injury cart to head inside. While riding down the tunnel, Williams courageously removed his towel and gave fans a reassuring thumbs-up.

On social media, fans blamed the Madden curse for his injury.

“Madden curse☠️,” one person said.

“The Madden curse strikes again,” a second person wrote.

“Madden curse man, just deny the cover if you’re asked,” a third person stated of Caleb Williams.

“Madden curse? 🥲,” one final person commented.

What’s Next For Chicago?

The Chicago Bears will turn to backup quarterback Tyson Bagent to direct the offense for as long as Caleb Williams is sidelined with his right hamstring injury.

As the primary backup, Tyson Bagent will take over the starting huddle. Bagent has been experiencing this since his rookie year, but he brings a much different, more conservative playstyle compared to Williams’ explosive downfield threat.

With Bagent moving into the starting slot, Chicago will elevate undrafted rookie Austin Reed from the practice squad to serve as the new backup quarterback.

Head coach Matt Eberflus and offensive coordinator Ben Johnson will have to reshape the playbook. Expect the Bears to lean heavily on their ground game going forward.
