The Philadelphia Eagles continue to stretch their reach far beyond football. This week, one of the franchise’s most recognizable figures showed up in a surprising place during ESPN’s coverage of the PGA Championship.
Dom DiSandro, the Eagles’ chief security officer and fan favorite known as “Big Dom,” voiced ESPN’s opening for the 108th PGA Championship at Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania. The scene got attention as fans heard DiSandro introduce one of golf’s biggest events.
The PGA Championship runs from Thursday through Sunday and brings nearly 200,000 spectators to Delaware County. The tournament also marks the first PGA Championship held in the area since 1962. ESPN leaned heavily into the Philadelphia connection during its opening coverage, and DiSandro became a major part of that effort.
ESPN insider Adam Schefter posted the appearance on X.
“Eagles chief security officer Dom DiSandro voiced the open on ESPN for the PGA Championship at Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania,” Schefter wrote.
Fans Question ESPN’s Philadelphia-Heavy Approach

DiSandro’s appearance in ESPN’s PGA Championship opening created mixed reactions online. Many Eagles fans enjoyed seeing “Big Dom” involved because he has become a popular figure during the team’s recent success. However, fans are surprised why ESPN keeps featuring Eagles personalities during top golf broadcasts.

It’s a bit frustrating, as ESPN used former Eagles center Jason Kelce during Masters coverage earlier this year. Critics felt the network was trying too hard to mix football personalities into golf coverage.
Even with the debate, the tournament still had plenty of good storylines. Delaware County golfer Braden Shattuck became the first player to tee off on Thursday morning. Eighteen-year-old Beau Riviere also gained attention as the youngest caddie in the tournament.
At the same time, top golf stars Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler entered the week as two of the biggest attractions at Aronimink Golf Club after practicing there for several days before the event started.
Still, before the tournament officially got going, Big Dom managed to grab some of the hype.
