Former Dallas Cowboys running back Miles Sanders might not find a team for the 2026 season.

Sanders became a free agent because the Carolina Panthers released him from his contract. First, Sanders played four strong seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, which boosted his value. Subsequently, he signed a lucrative four-year deal with the Carolina Panthers in 2023.

However, his performance in Carolina dropped over two difficult seasons. Therefore, the team chose to release him early to save money on their salary cap rather than pay his upcoming roster bonus.

Ultimately, this release turned him into a free agent, leading him to sign a one-year contract with the Dallas Cowboys. Now, Miles Sanders might remain a free agent for the foreseeable future.

Miles Sanders was Found Slumped In The Middle Of A Highway

Former NFL running back Miles Sanders was arrested for driving under the influence and careless driving on June 8, 2026, in Churchill Borough, Pennsylvania.

Police found Sanders sitting motionless in a silver Lexus in the middle of William Penn Highway. Initially, officers noticed he was slumped in the driver’s seat and drifting in and out of consciousness. When they woke him up, he appeared extremely lethargic and could not answer questions.

Furthermore, his breath smelled of alcohol, and his eyes were glossy.

Sanders Fails Field Sobriety Tests

After admitting to drinking, officers asked Sanders to step out and perform several standardized field sobriety tests. During these tests, he failed to follow instructions, struggled with balance, and showed signs of impairment. In addition, he tested positive for alcohol on a portable breath test.

Consequently, police took him into custody and searched his vehicle. Inside, they discovered a sealed package of suspected marijuana products. Regarding his legal proceedings, his attorney, Phil DiLucente, stated that the situation is a private matter and noted it has not yet reached the preliminary hearing stage.
