Remarks from former quarterback Cam Newton have reignited discussion about COVID-era policies in the National Football League.

Back in 2021, Rodgers told the media that he had been “immunized” when asked if he had been vaccinated during the COVID-19 pandemic. Rodgers appeared to be confirming that he had been vaccinated. However, it later came out that he did not receive an approved vaccination.

From there, the stories began to roll in. Everyone began wondering why Rodgers didn’t get the vaccine. He previously told Pat McAfee he did not take the vaccine because the Pfizer and Moderna doses contained an ingredient to which he was allergic.

That left just the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, which he opted not to take due to the side effects. While he maintains he is “not anti-vax,” his public stance and frequent criticisms of pandemic-era figures and mandates have kept him at the center of ongoing public controversy.

Now, Cam Newton is proving him right in what he previously stated.

The comments from Cam Newton came during an appearance on his own podcast and directly aligned with earlier statements from Aaron Rodgers.

Multiple players, coaches, and executives were said to have obtained fraudulent documentation during the height of the pandemic restrictions. Strict testing, masking, and distancing rules applied to those without verified vaccination status at the time.

Newton described personal knowledge of individuals in locker rooms who avoided the actual injection yet possessed official-looking cards.

‘If we’re being honest,’ he said. ‘Going back to 2020 [2021], there were multiple players, coaches, and executives that fraudulently got their COVID shot. Yes, I said it.’

He explained: ‘I knew multiple people in that locker room didn’t get the Covid shot… but they got a card that they paid for.

‘Boy, nurses was making big bank. But that card and that little [stamp]… man, folks was trying to get in that club. “Hey, man, you got your vaccination card?” Yeah, yeah, I got it…”‘

Furthermore, he noted that some nurses allegedly benefited financially from providing the falsified paperwork. Meanwhile, Rodgers had previously recalled seeing cards that appeared poorly fabricated and compared them to drawings done in crayon. Consequently, the unvaccinated group faced additional burdens, such as armbands and limited access, while others allegedly bypassed the system.

Newton Details Experiences From Inside the Locker Room

The former Panthers and Patriots signal-caller emphasized honesty when addressing the topic of fraudulent compliance. Additionally, he noted the high demand for the cards that granted entry to restricted areas and team activities. In addition, his own earlier issues with testing protocols led to temporary exclusion from facilities during his time in New England. Therefore, the perspective offered carries weight from someone who navigated the system as an unvaccinated player at one point.

Moreover, the statements have drawn attention to the uneven enforcement and potential loopholes in the league’s rules.

Cam Newton confirmed in October 2021 that he received the COVID-19 vaccine. He was initially unvaccinated when the New England Patriots released him prior to the 2021 season. He later announced that he had gotten the shot to clear the air and resume his NFL career.
