The Green Bay Packers are faced with a problem they would have hoped to avoid this offseason.

The NFC North team wouldn’t have expected to be in the news at this time of year, with things typically slow in late May. However, their star running back, Josh Jacobs, has run afoul of the law.

Police arrested the three-time Pro Bowler on a number of serious domestic violence charges on Tuesday. The nature of the legal issues could see him miss time, especially if the NFL intervenes.

The league could opt to suspend Jacobs even if he isn’t penalized in court.

While details remain sparse, one insider has revealed the Packers’ plans for the under-fire RB.

Running backs aren’t as highly regarded as they were in years past and are certainly paid that way. But Jacobs is considered an invaluable part of the offense in Green Bay and one of the best players at his position in the pros.

His arrest could prove damaging on both personal and team fronts. However, according to Jason LaCanfora, Green Bay isn’t expected to move for any replacements despite the uncertain circumstances.

Previous reports suggested the team could trade for Arizona Cardinals back James Conner. But LaCanfora insists such a move isn’t on the cards at the moment.

“League sources indicated they did not expect the Packers to make a trade or free-agent signing in the immediate aftermath of Jacobs’s arrest,” he reports.

“Team officials made no immediate overtures to available running backs, though there are a number of avenues they could explore,” LaCanfora adds.

Jacobs is one of the best running backs in the league, as noted above.

He has been a dependable source of yardage for the Packers and has registered 2,258 yards on 4.2 yards per carry and 28 touchdowns since signing a four-year deal with the team.
