Is Pat McAfee heading to the Monday Night Football booth? He certainly spoke about it today after online rumors suggested he was.

This is happening because of an argument Joe Buck and Troy Aikman had on Monday. The longtime broadcasters reportedly got into an argument in the announcer’s booth at SoFi Stadium ahead of Monday night’s game between the Rams and the Bills.

Buck and Aikman’s relationship has supposedly been strained ever since Buck signed a new contract with ESPN. Aikman, however, has not received a formal offer on a new deal.

So on Monday night, Buck “broke the ice” on the unspoken tension, but it led to an argument. After the news broke, Troy Aikman told 96.7 The Ticket on Thursday: “There’s probably a time and a place for all that to be discussed.”

“I don’t know if now is the time. I don’t know that it’s hard to figure out kind of what’s happened. I’ll broadcast through this season, and I’ll be a free agent at the end of the year and kind of see what happens. I’m looking forward to whatever the rest of this year does hold with the Super Bowl and all that and where my next landing spot might be.”

It sounded like a man who was on his way out.

Pat McAfee released a statement completely shutting down viral rumors about his future. He explicitly wrote to his millions of social media followers that “this isn’t real.”

His post also included a clip from his podcast show to further address the speculation linking him directly to the Monday Night Football broadcast booth.

Specifically, he declared that “I’m not supposed to be in a football booth.” McAfee reassured fans that he does not like doing color commentary unless it is for wrestling. He further added that network executives have never reached out to him regarding a change.

Consequently, he stated, “There’s never been a conversation” about him joining the MNF booth.
