Super Bowl Gambling Scandal? NFL Gets Called Out Over “Inside Information” & The Handling Of Drake Maye’s Injury

The NFL is facing a potential gambling scandal over Drake Maye.
That’s according to ProFootballTalk’s Mike Florio, who brought up the quarterback’s treatment ahead of the Super Bowl on Sunday.
Maye had an underwhelming performance for the New England Patriots, who lost to the Seattle Seahawks. The third-year QB threw for 295 yards and two touchdowns, but he was also picked off twice.
Of note, the Patriots didn’t begin scoring until the fourth quarter.
Masslive.com’s Mark Daniels revealed that Maye told reporters he got a painkilling injection in his injured shoulder before the game. But he did not make any claims of the injury limiting him.
The 23-year-old previously told the media he was fine heading into Sunday’s big game.
Mike Florio Says Drake Maye Lied About His Injury

Florio reckons Maye was lying when he said he was feeling great and was actually not in the best shape to play on Sunday.
“The fact that Maye received a painkilling injection before the game proves it. Those things aren’t done preemptively,” he wrote. “He had a condition that was causing significant discomfort to require the area to be numbed so that he would have a chance to play as he normally does.”
“Maye fully participated in practice on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. He was removed from the final report, with no designation to suggest anything other than he was good to go,” the journalist added.
He wouldn’t be the first one to call Maye a liar since the start of the season… Stephen A. Smith did so on live TV last year.
Florio warned that “the scandal is coming. And, when it happens, they’ll act surprised. Shocked. Appalled. Even if they should have seen it coming.”
The NFL has jumped fully into bed with gambling. The league makes millions from sportsbook sponsorship. Owners are allowed to acquire up to five percent of any company that operates a sportsbook — and the league has refused in the past to disclose which owners own pieces of which sportsbooks.
Drake Maye had an incredible 2025 and was in the MVP conversation until Matthew Stafford was unveiled last week. However, he was unable to get the job done when the light shone the brightest. And the hope is that he will learn from the experience and return to win it all.
Whether the injury played a role in the loss is unknown.
