Tyreek Hill is still a free agent, still recovering from a torn ACL, and still one of the most intriguing names on the NFL market heading into the summer. The Atlanta Falcons have now been floated as one of his best potential landing spots — and the reasoning goes deeper than just needing a wide receiver.

Hill tore his ACL on September 29 in what would be his final game as a Miami Dolphin. The franchise released him in February, saving $22.8 million in cap space and closing the door on a four-year run that produced some of the most explosive receiving seasons in NFL history. He has been documenting his rehabilitation publicly and has not yet been cleared to return to full football activity. But the assumption around the league is that once he is, teams will come calling — and CBS Sports’ Garrett Podell believes Atlanta should be first in line.

Why a Tyreek Hill and Tua Tagovailoa Reunion Works in Atlanta

The headline connection is obvious. Tua Tagovailoa, now the Falcons’ quarterback after Miami moved on from him this offseason, and Hill produced back-to-back historic seasons together in Miami. In 2023 alone, Tagovailoa threw for 4,624 yards and 29 touchdowns while earning Pro Bowl honors. Hill recorded 1,799 of those receiving yards and 13 touchdowns, also earning a Pro Bowl nod. The wide receiver became the first player in NFL history to post multiple 1,700-yard receiving seasons, and Tagovailoa’s deep ball was the engine behind both of them.

“Hill could easily leapfrog Jahan Dotson and Olamide Zaccheaus to be WR2 for the Atlanta Falcons behind only Drake London,” Podell wrote. “He also became the first player in NFL history with multiple 1,700-yard receiving seasons after his first two seasons catching passes from Tua Tagovailoa in 2022 and 2023, and Tagovailoa is now in Atlanta. Even if Michael Penix Jr. ends up starting the vast majority of the games, Hill has plenty of reps banked catching passes from a left-handed quarterback, thanks to his four seasons in Miami with Tagovailoa.”

Podell also noted that Hill already has extensive experience catching passes from a left-handed quarterback. This is a useful attribute whether Penix Jr. or Tagovailoa ultimately wins the job.

Where Else Tyreek Hill Could Land Before the Season

Atlanta was not the only destination Podell named. The Baltimore Ravens, Washington Commanders, Los Angeles Rams, and a potential return to the Kansas City Chiefs all made his list. The Chiefs remain the most frequently cited option. Hill began his career in Kansas City and has never hidden his affection for the organization. The common assumption is that any deal Hill signs will be a short-term contract.

The Tyreek Hill Eagles landing spot was also generating buzz earlier this summer via prediction markets. Philadelphia drew 34% of Polymarket users as his most likely destination before Atlanta entered the conversation more forcefully.

After his release from Miami, Hill posted a message that left no ambiguity about his intentions.

“The Cheetah don’t slow down. Ever. So to everyone wondering what’s next… just wait on it. The Cheetah will be back… Born Again.”

That kind of public declaration from a player of his profile doesn’t get ignored. Atlanta’s 2026 offseason outlook already identified receiver as a pressing need. Hill would address it with a connection to their quarterback that no other free agent can offer.
