Cowboys’ Latest Roster Moves Suggest They’re Preparing To Make Maxx Crosby Blockbuster Deal

The Dallas Cowboys were one of the front-runners to trade for Maxx Crosby in the offseason.

Their plan to acquire the Raiders’ star edge-rusher seemingly went for naught as the Baltimore Ravens swooped in out of nowhere. However, when the trade between the Ravens and the Raiders did not go through, it looks like the Cowboys are back in the Crosby sweepstakes.

Cowboys Made Flurry Of Moves To Clear Cap Space

Ahead of the season opener, the Dallas Cowboys made a flurry of moves for cap space purposes. ESPN’s Todd Archer divulged that the Cowboys restructured the deals of some of their players.

Pro Bowl defensive tackle Kenny Clark, All-Pro cornerback DaRon Bland, and two-time Pro Bowl tight end Jake Ferguson now have restructured deals for Dallas.

Before the move, the Cowboys had over $14 million in cap space. Now, the team has approximately $33 million in cap space to use for future deals. 

“If the Cowboys want to make a significant trade before the deadline later this season, theoretically, they would have the room to do so,” Archer wrote. “Last year, the Cowboys added Pro Bowl defensive tackle Quinnen Williams from the New York Jets with a trade deadline deal,” he added.

Will Cowboys Trade For Maxx Crosby

After they traded Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers last season, the Cowboys have been looking to fill that position again. Moreover, they are reportedly looking for an established talent for the role.

Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio has floated the idea that the Cowboys may make a deal for Maxx Crosby due to their available cap space. 

“With more than $30 million in 2026 cap space now on hand, the Cowboys have plenty of space to absorb a veteran contract (or two) via trade. Coincidentally, or not, Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby has a 2026 base salary of $30 million. Just saying,” Florio said.

Earlier this week, there were reports that the Dallas Cowboys were not done acquiring talent.
