Dan Campbell called an unexpected play against the Cowboys on Thursday night; it was so unexpected, it didn’t work.

The Detroit Lions head coach is very fond of non-conventional plays, which is why fans were desperate to keep a video of a fake punt from a high school game away from him. 

Detroit is in a must-win game tonight, given that time is running out for them following their loss to the Green Bay Packers on Thanksgiving. A loss would put them at risk of losing tiebreakers, drop them further behind in the NFC North, and make their path to a wild-card spot a lot harder. 

Still, the HC tried a screen play with a linebacker during the game. 

As noted above, it did not work.

The catch was dropped… because that’s not what linebackers are paid to do. 

Of course, the memes came through almost immediately.

“Campbell can’t quit this play,” one account shared.

The Lions led 20-9 at the time of writing.
