The Detroit Lions have received some unwanted news following Brian Branch’s injury during Thursday night’s win over the Dallas Cowboys.

While the Lions kept themselves in the hunt for playoff football with the victory, it came at the expense of one of their best defensive players.

Branch, a safety who was suspended earlier in the season, sustained a lower-body injury while helping his team get an essential stop in the red zone. It was assumed that the player had hurt his ankle, despite reports that he was wearing a boot and using crutches after the game.

“Yeah, I mean, he didn’t finish the game,” Lions head coach Dan Campbell told reporters after the 44-30 win. “But there again, I’ll know more tomorrow.”

Since then, it has been reported that the Pro Bowler may have ruptured his Achilles tendon. As a result, he’ll miss the remainder of 2025. It’s also likely that he will miss some games next season, should that be the case.

The injury has not been confirmed, with further tests required.

“Lions standout DB Brian Branch is feared to have suffered an Achilles injury on Thursday night,” NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero revealed on Friday. “Branch will have further tests this morning. But another potential blow to a Detroit team coming off a huge win.”

Branch has been a standout player in the Lions’ secondary this season. He has registered 75 tackles, nine pass breakups, 2.5 sacks, and a fumble recovery. He made four INTs for the Lions last term.

The NFL was accused of running a smear campaign on the 24-year-old following his fight after a loss to the Kansas City Chiefs that resulted in his suspension. However, they deleted the video in question.
