At first, it sounds crazy to imagine Lamar Jackson playing for the Miami Dolphins. But around the league, people keep talking about it. This offseason feels different from the last time his future in Baltimore came into question.

Before, teams backed off and Jackson stayed put. Now, things look more open. Jackson looks frustrated and beat up, which has only fueled trade talk.

Jackson’s season never found a good flow. Injuries disrupted everything. He missed three games with a hamstring issue. He then left a Week 16 loss to New England with a back contusion.

Communication problems made things worse. The NFL fined Baltimore $100,000 for filing an incorrect injury report in Week 7. That incident caught the attention of the league and raised many questions about whether tension existed between the Ravens and Jackson.

Trading Jackson would mean a massive shift for Baltimore. Moving on without a clear starting quarterback usually signals a rebuild. Online rumors have even floated a mock deal that sends Jackson to Miami, with the Ravens getting Tua Tagovailoa and first-round picks in 2026, 2027, and 2028.

Money is the biggest obstacle. Jackson would carry a massive $75.4 million cap hit in 2026, and that number would rise without a new contract. Miami also faces cap trouble. Releasing Tagovailoa after June 1 would leave the Dolphins with a $99 million dead cap hit.

Even with those issues, the fit still makes sense. Jackson grew up in South Florida. He starred at Boynton Beach High School. A homecoming appeals to both sides.

Dolphins reporter Brady Hamilton captured that feeling on X. “Restructure Lamar Jackson’s contract,” Hamilton wrote. “You simply do whatever it takes to get him in a Dolphins uniform.”

National voices agree. Fox Sports commentator Colin Cowherd weighed in on December 24.“I could absolutely see the Ravens taking a phone call from the Raiders or the Dolphins,” he said.

Miami would also give Jackson a break from the brutal AFC North weather. He has taken a lot of hits on cold, rough fields over the years. South Florida would offer warm weather, more space, and a faster style of play.
