Vanderbilt Commodores quarterback Diego Pavia made a wild admission about who he’s getting advice from ahead of the 2026 NFL draft. After a four-year college career, Pavia prepares to become a pro, but he hasn’t been exempt from controversy.
After losing the 2025 Heisman Award to Indiana Hoosiers Fernando Mendoza, Pavia took a big shot at the voters, raising plenty of eyebrows in college football. He went 267 of 378 for 3,539 and 29 touchdowns with eight interceptions.
On Friday, he told reporters at the NFL Combine that Johnny Manziel had given him advice.
“He’s giving me what to look out for, what it’s like, how to stay in the process,” Pavia said regarding Manziel. “And, you know, he’s given me some good advice, for sure. He always reaches out, too, checks up on me, makes sure I’m good, and he just, like, he’s just a friend to me, you know? And so he’s giving me some mentorship. He’s been around me, he’s been around my family. He’s just a great person for those that really don’t know him.”
NFL Fans Can’t Believe Diego Pavia Has Johnny Manziel as His Mentor

Many fans criticized Pavia for this decision, while others believe Manziel could give him valuable advice after he didn’t pan out as expected.
“‘Alright Diego to be a good NFL QB you have to do three things 1. Drink vodka out of water bottles in meetings 2. Study none of the playbook 3. Have zero respect for women,’” one fan said.
