NFL Fans Want Nothing To Do With President Donald Trump’s Big Idea For 2026

President Donald Trump recently shared some ideas for changing the NFL, which include kickoff rules, streaming broadcasts, and even the name of the sport, and fans definitely didn’t like it.
Trump suggested getting rid of the new kickoff rule, showing fewer games on streaming apps like Netflix and Peacock, and even changing the name of the sport so it doesn’t get confused with soccer. A lot of football fans aren’t thrilled, though, they mostly just want politicians to stay out of the game.
Trump explained his thoughts on the name earlier, he said, “When you look at what’s happened to football in the United States, soccer in the United States. We seem to never call it that (football) because we have a conflict with another thing that’s called football. But when you think about it, shouldn’t it really be called? This is football, there is no question about it. We have to come up with another name for the NFL stuff.”
Fans Push Back Against Trump’s Football Ideas
Trump has also continued to criticize the NFL’s kickoff rule. During an interview with Pat McAfee last October, he said, “I hate the kickoff in football. I think it’s so terrible; I think it’s so demeaning. I think it hurts the game and hurts the pageantry.”
He added, “The ball is in the air and nobody is moving. It’s supposed to be when the ball is in the air, when the ball is played, you’re supposed to be moving. The pageantry of the game is so badly hurt. The NFL, they do what they want to do. I don’t think they’ll change. I hope college football doesn’t change, because the power of the kickoff was so beautiful.”
Those comments did not sit well with many fans.

Some people disagreed with Trump about the kickoff rule, pointing out that the new changes actually help prevent player injuries. Many fans also said politicians should focus on running the country rather than worrying about professional sports.
Basically, even though Trump has plenty of opinions on how the NFL should work, fans just want the league to be left alone to make its own choices.
