In the Seahawks’ upcoming preseason finale against the Kansas City Chiefs, head coach Mike Macdonald reportedly has no plans to play his starters. He also said that sophomore QB Jalen Milroe will start the game.

The Seattle Seahawks have looked content with their lineup heading into the season. Plus, it’s a game that will not count in the standings. Despite the availability of backup QB Drew Lock, Milroe gets the nod on Friday.

Jalen Milroe Has Struggled This Preseason

Through a couple of preseason games, Milroe has struggled. He only completed 11 of 19 passes for 88 yards. He had no touchdowns. Alarmingly, he has been sacked five times and failed to score on all nine possessions he’s had on the field.

So far this preseason, Milroe has played sparingly behind veteran Drew Lock. Due to the small sample size, the 23-year-old’s potential is hard to decipher. He’ll get a chance against the Chiefs because he’s slated to play the whole game barring any injury.

“I think it’s really great that he has an opportunity,” Seahawks coach Macdonald said. The team is hopeful that they could see something in Milroe. Friday’s game serves as an audition rather than an ultimatum.

Should he perform well, Macdonald may be open to giving him opportunities in the season. However, if Milroe struggles, then it’s back to the drawing board for him.

Pressure Is On Milroe’s Shoulders

Entering the training camp, there were some pundits who were hopeful that Jalen Milroe had shown enough improvement to take over backup quarterback duties for the Seahawks.

Camp is long gone. Preseason is already wrapping up, and Milroe is still behind Drew Lock in Seattle’s QB depth.

While all the pressure would fall on the young quarterback, coach Macdonald just wants to end the preseason without any more injuries to his team.
