The powers to be are not thrilled with the Eagles’ handling of Jalen Hurts. The league may have cleared them, but all is not well in the aftermath.
Jalen Hurts has been sidelined for the remainder of the season. This was after a superficial blood clot in his left calf progressed into deep vein thrombosis and bilateral pulmonary emboli.
Hurts suffered a left calf injury from a cleat during a game against the Los Angeles Rams earlier this month. Days later, an ultrasound revealed a superficial blood clot in his calf. However, medical staff cleared him to play in Week 5 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Follow-up imaging showed that the clot had moved into a deeper vein and subsequently traveled to both lungs as bilateral pulmonary emboli.
NFL Execs Furious With Eagles Over Jalen Hurts Blood Clot Handling

League officials reportedly have no issue with how Philadelphia handled Hurts’ initial treatment in London. However, the team’s response to the controversy has frustrated league executives.
Marcus Hayes of the Philadelphia Inquirer reported that the powers that be are “furious” with the team over its messaging on the situation.
The report goes on to add that the NFLPA can escalate its mission to a fully independent investigation if it believes the current co-investigation is obstructed or misled in any way.’
Last week, the NFL’s chief medical officer, Allen Sills, defended the Eagles’ process.
“The notion that there are external factors or that any of our physicians would put a player in harm’s way — that’s nonsense,” Sills said.
“I think there was incredible vigilance, there was conservative care, state-of-the-art imaging that was done in London. And, as far as the timing and the decision-making, I have great confidence in that and believe that everyone acted with an abundance of caution.”
The league is trying to maintain a united front while still taking issue with the Eagles’ lack of clear answers about Jalen Hurts. Dealing with the Hurts situation is one thing, but the team is also on life support.
They are currently 2-4 and falling fast.
