Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell had an emotional press conference this week. He provided a positive update on linebacker Jack Campbell, sharing that preliminary hospital reports are encouraging.

The news came after the star player’s scary neck injury against the Minnesota Vikings. The Lions released a statement about 30 minutes before Campbell was set to speak.

“Jack Campbell continues to rest and recover at a local hospital. Preliminary indications are positive and out of respect for Jack and his family we will not share further information at this time.”

Campbell did not elaborate on that statement, but he echoed the early news that it was “positive” for the star linebacker.

Amid the update, however, there was one moment that one reporter wishes he could take back.

The Detroit Lions franchise has focused entirely on Jack Campbell. The Lions defeated the Minnesota Vikings in a key NFC North clash on Sunday. However, it was drastically overshadowed by the frightening injury to the 26-year-old.

Campbell went motionless after making a tackle on the first play of the fourth quarter when he lowered his head into a tackle.

At his Monday press conference, most of the time was spent talking about Jack Campbell’s condition. However, one Lions reporter wanted to know about football. That is something he would end up regretting.

Longtime beat reporter Justin Rogers took to X and apologized for asking a football question at the press conference.

“Immediately regret working a football/game question into that press conference. Wasn’t the right time and it could have easily waited until Wednesday. Apologies,” Rogers wrote on X.

With injuries like his, football gets put on the back burner. It’s quite clear that the reporter meant nothing by his question. The moment is something to learn from going forward.
