Joe Buck and Troy Aikman still have a Super Bowl to call together at ESPN. That is, if plans hold.
Aikman’s contract expires after the network’s first Super Bowl broadcast on February 14, 2027.
Front Office Sports reported that Aikman has not received a formal extension offer. Buck, meanwhile, signed a new six-year deal in September.
Tension has also reared its head in the booth. FOS reported that it boiled over in an argument before the Bills-Rams game. Aikman did not deny it.
The two analysts have worked together since 2002, when they started at FOX. They moved to ESPN 20 years later but now look to be on different paths.
Buck appeared on Jimmy Traina’s SI Media Podcast earlier this year and was asked whether he could work with another NFL broadcast partner. According to Traina, Buck said he could work with anyone.
“He didn’t hesitate for half a second,” Traina said.

Aikman Told Dallas Radio He Expects To Be A Free Agent

Aikman gave his own update in mid-October on Dallas’ 96.7 The Ticket. “I’ll broadcast through this season and I’ll be a free agent at the end of the year and kind of see what happens,” he said.
Aikman said he is looking forward to “whatever the rest of this year does hold, with the Super Bowl and all that,” and “where my next landing spot might be.”
For now, the pair stays together on the call. They were in the booth together when the Chicago Bears beat the Seattle Seahawks this Monday and, if all goes according to plan, will call Super Bowl 61 in L.A.
