The Miami Dolphins may have found the perfect way to troll Jayden Daniels before their preseason opener.

Miami posted its game-day graphic on Friday before facing the Washington Commanders. The image prominently featured running back Jaylen Wright wearing No. 5. 

That choice would normally mean very little. However, Daniels also wears No. 5 for Washington.

The timing made Miami’s decision particularly interesting. Daniels has spent the past two days dealing with an unexpected controversy involving his former LSU number.

His representatives sent LSU a cease-and-desist letter after the school gave No. 5 to sophomore cornerback DJ Pickett.

Daniels later addressed the controversy himself. He broke his silence on the strange situation on Thursday, saying he remained focused on Washington while hoping the dispute could be resolved privately.

Miami did not reference Daniels in its post. The team simply wrote, “Preseason starts now ‼️🐬 #PhinsUp.”

Still, some things are just obvious.

Wright originally wore No. 25 during his rookie season before switching to No. 5 in 2025. making this all the more intriguing.

One user noticed it immediately.

“The 5 gotta be intentional 😭.”

Another fan warned Miami about what could happen if Washington’s reserves perform well.

“Ya keep trolling when the 3rd string qb puts BTA tonight don’t forget to post that score.”

“Did we get permission to use 5 in this post?!? Don’t wanna upset anyone in DC 👀🤣,” someone else joked. 

“Gotta love the subtle troll…😂😂,” one comment read.

A fan noted, “Putting #5 Jaylen Wright on the graphic for the game against the Commanders😭.”

Daniels’ LSU Number Drama Has Become An NFL Storyline

Daniels’ representatives argued that LSU should stop using his name, image and likeness after the school reassigned No. 5. LSU had not issued the number since Daniels left, while Pickett had reportedly been promised it during recruitment.

The controversy has now spilled well beyond Baton Rouge. Even other NFL personalities have been drawn into the discussion.

Meanwhile, Daniels remains focused on his NFL career with Washington.

The Dolphins have not confirmed that Wright’s jersey number was chosen as a reference to Daniels. The timing, however, has given fans plenty of reason to suspect a little trolling.

Sometimes a preseason graphic is just a preseason graphic. Other times, it’s a lot more.
