The San Francisco 49ers finally got some great news on the injury front ahead of Week 1. Both George Kittle and Nick Bosa are making the trip to Australia as the team gears up to play the Los Angeles Rams.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Wednesday that Kittle is looking very likely to play, an impressive recovery after tearing his Achilles back in January. Even better, the star tight end has already put together two solid days of practice without any setbacks.
He still needs to check a few final boxes before officially cleared to play, but his steady progress has the 49ers feeling optimistic about getting him on the field.
Kittle Trending Up As Bosa Ramps Up

Rapoport reported, “The 49ers leave today for their game vs the Rams in Australia, and star TE George Kittle will make the trip after 2 positive days of practice, sources say. Kittle is trending in the right direction to play. DE Nick Bosa, ramping up with his knee, will also make the trip.”
Bosa will make the trip as well. The star defensive end continues to work his way back from a torn ACL. He missed much of training camp while recovering.

49ers general manager John Lynch recently offered an update on Bosa during an interview with KNBR. Lynch said Bosa planned to return to the field on Wednesday as he increased his workload.
“Wednesday, he wants to get out on the field,” Lynch said.
Lynch also praised Bosa’s work during his recovery. He said the defensive end has “been doing great work to the side” and understands the process after previous ACL recoveries.
The general manager also stressed that returning to football activity brings a different challenge.
“Now, always ramping it up to actual football is a difference, and so that’s the next step, and we’re very hopeful,” Lynch said.
The 49ers have dealt with several injury concerns heading into the 2026 season.
San Francisco kicks off the regular season against the Rams next Thursday in an international showdown down under in Australia.
While both stars still have to prove they’re ready for full-speed game action, just having them on the squad is a huge sigh of relief. With Kittle closing in on a return and Bosa hitting key recovery goals, the team has plenty of reasons to feel good heading into Week 1.
