It’s only training camp, but one Drake Maye practice rep has already become a talking point online.
A video circulating on social media shows the quarterback attempting to hit newly acquired wide receiver A.J. Brown on a crossing route during Patriots practice. The video shows Brown breaking open on a crossing route before Maye’s throw sails high.

The clip quickly made the rounds on X, where some fans questioned Brown’s commitment.
“Wow already pulling up on routes… Philly got the better end of this first sure. Boston bout to find out!” one wrote.

One Eagles fan got a real kick out of the missed target, getting creative with that popular Dillon Brooks meme.

Patriots Stars Continue Building Chemistry During Training Camp

The missed connection contrasts with what both players have said publicly about their developing chemistry.
Since Brown arrived in New England, he has repeatedly praised Maye’s talent and leadership, saying he has enjoyed building chemistry with the second-year quarterback throughout offseason workouts and training camp.
Maye has returned the praise, calling Brown one of the league’s premier receivers and emphasizing how much easier an elite target makes life for a young quarterback.
Earlier this week, Brown also joked that Maye wasn’t allowed to throw enough during practice, and he hated it. He did make it clear he was teasing rather than criticizing his quarterback or the coaching staff.
Training camp routinely produces isolated highlights and lowlights as offenses and defenses install new schemes. Timing between quarterbacks and receivers also continues to develop throughout the preseason.
