Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Beck Gets Important Injury Update After Being Ruled Out For Preseason Game vs. Raiders

Arizona Cardinals rookie quarterback Carson Beck gave fans a scare ahead of Thursday night’s preseason game with the Las Vegas Raiders. Just hours before kickoff, news broke that Beck was ruled out due to a rib injury suffered during the Hall of Fame Game.

The timing was a bummer for Cardinals fans, especially after Beck dazzled in his preseason debut against the Carolina Panthers on Aug. 6. In that game, he went 15-for-19 for 188 yards and a touchdown without turning the ball over, creating serious hype around the young signal-caller.
After Arizona’s 27-14 win over the Raiders, head coach Mike LaFleur calmed the situation, reassuring everyone that Beck’s injury isn’t serious and that he will recover without any issues.
Cardinals Expect Beck Back Soon
LaFleur said the Cardinals held Beck out as a precaution. He explained that the quarterback dealt with discomfort in his ribs, but the injury did not raise any serious concerns.
“Tough dude. No concern level really,” LaFleur said during his postgame press conference.
LaFleur added that Beck could still throw the football despite the injury.
“If this would have been flag football or seven-on-seven, we would have trotted him out there, and he could have thrown,” LaFleur said.
The coach also noted that rib injuries can sometimes feel worse a few days after they happen. Because the game carried no regular-season stakes, he chose not to take any unnecessary risks.
“I just didn’t want to risk it,” LaFleur said. “We thought that was in the best interest to make sure that we sat him back.”
While Beck is definitely one of the team’s most exciting young prospects, veteran Jacoby Brissett is still likely to be the Week 1 starter. Reports have long pointed to Brissett taking the opening snaps, and his recent contract tweak shows that. He looked sharp against the Raiders, completing all five of his passes for 44 yards and a touchdown.
For now, the Cardinals can breathe easier. Beck’s rib issue isn’t serious, and his development will continue normally. All eyes will be on his status next Saturday when Arizona hosts the Dallas Cowboys for their next preseason test.
