It has certainly been an offseason of shocks, with many players retiring, and Lance McCutcheon is the latest.
Cleveland Browns rookie linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah retired at age 26 last month. Just last week, Bears C Drew Dalman retired at age 27.
McCutcheon, a former star wide receiver at Bozeman High School and Montana State University, announced his retirement from football and the NFL. He has been in the NFL since 2022 and spent time with the Los Angeles Rams, Houston Texans, New York Jets, Pittsburgh Steelers, and, most recently, Tennessee Titans.
McCutcheon announced his retirement on social media on Tuesday. He posted himself in every jersey he wore for the teams he suited up for.
“I just wanted to take the time to thank everyone who has played a part in this process,” Lance McCutcheon wrote.
“I couldn’t have accomplished anything that I did or made it where I did without the help from so many different people. The list of thanks that are owed is never ending, so THANK YOU to everyone out there that helped me accomplish my dream of playing in the NFL.”
More On Lance McCutcheon

Lance McCutcheon never became the undrafted hero many fans thought he’d be, but he still carved out a nice career. He led the NFL in receiving yards during the 2022 preseason, and fans everywhere rooted for him.
After his one year with the Rams, he had stints with the Texans, Jets, Steelers, and Titans, all on the practice squad. McCutcheon is a 6-foot-3, 203-pound wide receiver who came out of Montana State.
McCutcheon ran a 4.57 40-yard dash coming out of Montana State. He was a First-Team All-Big Sky selection in 2021, and for good reason. He posted 1,219 receiving yards and nine touchdowns on 61 receptions.
His rookie season with the Rams was the only year McCutcheon saw the field in NFL regular-season action. He played in 10 games, primarily on special teams, and recorded two solo tackles. On offense, he did not record any catches that season but was targeted five times.
Hopefully, Lance McCutcheon has something lined up for his post-career.
