The Kansas City Chiefs prepare for the 2026 NFL draft, when they will have the No. 9 pick in the first round. The 2024 AFC champions will have plenty of options at that spot, with multiple offensive players available.

Ohio State wide receiver Carnell Tate could be one of those options, more so now that Rashee Rice faces legal trouble. The junior receiver caught 51 passes for 876 yards and nine touchdowns in 2025. He helped the Buckeyes post a 12-2 record (9-0 in conference) after they won the national championship in 2024.

College football reporter Travis May reported on Friday that the Chiefs were one of four teams that spent “extensive time” with Tate.

“Carnell Tate’s confirmed extensive time with Chiefs, [New Orleans] Saints, and [both] New York teams,” May tweeted.

While Carnell Tate explained that his “mindset, the catching, the route-running, and the blocking” make him the best wide receiver in this draft class, another prospect raved about the prospect of playing for the Chiefs. Notre Dame’s Jeremiyah Love explained why he would like to play for the AFC West franchise.

“Being able to join that system, it would mean a lot,” Love said. “The Chiefs in general–my running back coach, actually, coach Deland McCullough from my freshman and sophomore year in Notre Dame, he coached there, won a Super Bowl with them. So, it would be cool for me to go there and play for (them). I got a great coaching staff over there. I’d be blessed to go there.”

The Chiefs will look to strengthen the running game this offseason. They will have several options in free agency before the prospect of drafting Love comes around.
