It is well known that Tom Brady and Bill Belichick’s relationship was a major factor in the quarterback’s decision to leave the New England Patriots after 20 years.
He went on to win one more Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, retiring with seven Vince Lombardi trophies at home. Meanwhile, Belichick couldn’t keep the Patriots’ success alive and ended up leaving the franchise after the 2024 season.
After they went their separate ways, the relationship seemingly got better. They have exchanged praise in recent years, but Brady took a different approach over the weekend.
Tom Brady Goes After Bill Belichick During Commencement Speech

Brady spoke to Georgetown undergraduates over the weekend. He was the official commencement speaker for students graduating from Georgetown’s McDonough School of Business, and didn’t miss the chance to diss his former coach.
“I don’t do well with compliments,” Brady said. “I had a coach for 20 years tell me how (expletive) I was every day.”
Additionally, he encouraged students with people who help them grow, even if “one of those people is a cranky old coach who cuts the sleeves off their sweatshirt and screams at you all day.”

Despite their sour relationship at the end, Brady and Belichick created the best coach-quarterback duo in NFL history.
