Wild Brawl Breaks Out At Kansas City Chiefs Practice, And Travis Kelce Found Himself In The Middle Of It [VIDEO]

Training camp in St Joseph turned chippy on Saturday, and a full blown Chiefs fight stole the headlines. Kansas City wrapped Day 10 of camp at Missouri Western State University with its second straight padded practice. Six consecutive days on the field finally caught up with tempers on both sides of the ball.

Two separate scuffles broke out, and Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes both had to step in to calm things down.

Chiefs Fight Breaks Out Between Suamataia And Anudike-Uzomah

The first fight sparked after a physical rep between left guard Kingsley Suamataia and defensive end Felix Anudike-Uzomah. It marked the first time this year that punches were actually thrown during a Chiefs practice. Suamataia reportedly pulled off Anudike-Uzomah’s helmet and landed a punch. Undrafted rookie Kahlil Benson had to restrain FAU before things escalated further.

Mahomes and Reid rushed over to break it up. Defensive line coach Joe Cullen eventually pulled Anudike-Uzomah off the field to cool down. Reporter Farzin Vousoughian caught the whole thing on camera, and the clip quickly made the rounds on social media.

It is not the first time camp drama has surrounded this Chiefs locker room. Kelce himself once threw a haymaker during a padded practice, so this year’s roster clearly inherited some of that fire. Mahomes, who is working his way back from an ACL injury, has been vocal about wanting a competitive camp. He just does not want one that boils over like this.

Second Chiefs Fight Pulls Travis Kelce Into The Middle Of It

A second scuffle broke out during Reid’s long drive period, and this one pulled Kelce straight into the chaos. Safety Alohi Gilman shoved running back Kenneth Walker III out of bounds after the whistle. Walker did not take it well. He responded by tackling Gilman to the ground. Kelce was among the veterans who rushed in to pull the two apart. Walker was then sent to the sideline for a few plays to cool off.

Reporter Caleb James caught it all on video, captioning the clip simply, “Boys, I’m a K9 guy.”

Mahomes downplayed the drama afterward. He told reporters the scuffles come from six straight days of going against the same guys. He called it “super competitive on both sides” and said a little chippiness is normal this deep into camp. ESPN’s training camp tracker has also noted the physical tone of this year’s sessions.

Kelce, still going strong in his 14th season, showed up to camp looking every bit the steady veteran Kansas City needs, even as retirement rumors continue to swirl around him. On Saturday, that meant playing peacemaker instead of provocateur. With the Chiefs off Sunday, do not expect tempers to fully cool before the pads come back on, especially with the preseason opener now just around the corner.
