The New England Patriots have assisted in operations to bring American citizens home amid tensions between Israel and Iran.

The U.S. is, of course, involved in the conflict and recently teamed up with Israel to coordinate an air strike that killed Iran’s Supreme Leader.

Unfortunately, there are Americans who have zero involvement in the Middle East. And efforts are underway to get them all back home safely.

CBS reports that one of the Patriots’ planes was used to transport hundreds of Americans back to the U.S.

A U.S. State Department official shared a social media post on Friday showing people boarding the jet, adding that the aircraft landed in Washington, D.C.

New England Patriots “Encourage” Missions Like This

Assistant Secretary of State for Global Public Affairs Dylan Johnson noted that the plane was one of several used for charter flights that flew many people back to the U.S. from the Middle East.

The Pats have received plaudits for the gesture, but it wasn’t free. According to the State Department, the plane was paid for and is a part of a charter company’s fleet used by the government.

The AFC Champions had no involvement in the flight plans.

“When not in use by the team during the season, our team planes are operated by a charter company that uses the planes in their inventory of aircraft for various charter flights,” the team told WBZ-TV in a statement. “We encourage the charter company to use them for missions like this and other humanitarian and national interest type missions.”

The State Department revealed on Friday that over 2,400 Americans have returned to the U.S. since the operations against Iran began.

“We are moving thousands of people out of various Countries throughout the Middle East. It is being done quietly, but seamlessly. The State Department, under Secretary Marco Rubio, is doing a great job!” President Donald Trump wrote on social media.
