Parents and children arrived at A.C. Reynolds High School in Asheville on July 1, ready for an exciting day. They expected skills sessions, photos, and swag from Carolina Panthers wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan. Instead, they found empty fields and no organizers. The FlexWork Sports youth football camp never happened, the Asheville City Times reported.

FlexWork Sports Management advertised the event months earlier. Boys and girls ages 6-16 could learn from the rising star, get pictures, and receive free gear. Tickets cost about $100. Many families traveled long distances and took time off work.

Tetairoa McMillan held no role in planning the camp. Organizers simply asked him to appear. He could not attend. A FlexWork representative later confirmed the cancellation happened back in February.

Reynolds High School coach Chandler Greer learned about the event only from a flyer. His staff tried contacting FlexWork Sports multiple times. No one answered. A dead period on the NCHSAA calendar blocked school facility use anyway. Greer stressed the school never approved the gathering.

Some parents received last-minute emails. Those messages tried to shift registrations to a different Xavier Legette camp that had already occurred weeks earlier in Charlotte. Other families never got any notice. Confirmation emails still listed the original McMillan event.

“We’re really disappointed about the lack of information and communication,” Alyssa Kowalski, who brought her son to the camp from South Carolina, said. “You have all these children that are looking forward to seeing these players they look up to. It’s very unfortunate you’re letting their dreams go to waste.”

One popular account declared Tetairoa McMillan needed to choose better partners. Organizers took most of the blame for terrible management.

FlexWork Sports runs athlete-led camps nationwide. Similar events featuring other stars usually run smoothly. This one created a terrible look for everyone involved. Parents still wait for refunds weeks later.

The star receiver earned Offensive Rookie of the Year honors in 2025. He quickly became a key piece for Bryce Young and the Panthers. Fans expected better community outreach from a player of his stature.

Tetairoa McMillan continued offseason training with the Panthers. He focused on Year 2 improvements after a strong rookie campaign. The camp controversy still lingered online.

FlexWork Sports faced repeated calls for accountability. No public statement addressed the refunds or communication failures. Attendees estimated that at least 20 people waited at the school before leaving.

Parents wanted more than apologies. They sought full refunds and better protection for future events. The incident highlighted the risks of third-party athlete camps.

The story continues as parents push for a resolution. Many refuse to let the issue fade quietly. Tetairoa McMillan’s brand took a temporary hit from the association.
