NFL Star Wide Receiver Shockingly Retires At The Age Of 24

An NFL career that once showed plenty of promise appears to have ended almost as quickly as it began.
The New Orleans Saints placed wide receiver Ja’Lynn Polk on the reserve/retired list Sunday, signaling that the 24-year-old has stepped away from football.
The move appeared on the NFL’s official transaction wire. However, Polk has not publicly explained his decision.
The Patriots selected Polk with the 37th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft after an impressive collegiate career at Washington.
Expectations were high after he joined quarterback Drake Maye as part of New England’s rebuilding effort.
Ja’Lynn Polk’s College Success Never Carried Into The NFL
Polk struggled to find consistency during his rookie season.
He caught 12 passes on 33 targets for 87 yards and two touchdowns across 15 games, including seven starts.
His second season never got underway.
New England placed Polk on injured reserve before the 2025 season because of a shoulder injury. The Patriots traded him to the Saints in September 2025, along with a 2028 seventh-round pick, for a 2027 sixth-round pick.
The wideout spent the entire season on injured reserve and never appeared in a game for New Orleans.
Polk starred alongside Rome Odunze at Washington prior to his entry into the league. He helped lead the Huskies to the College Football Playoff National Championship Game at the end of the 2023 season, where they fell short to Michigan.
He finished that campaign with 69 catches for 1,159 yards and nine receiving touchdowns.
His retirement comes just two years after hearing his name called on draft night.
