Former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Lance Rentzel passed away on June 7. Rentzel, who spent his best days in the NFL under Tom Landry, passed away at age 82.
The Minnesota Vikings picked him in the second round of the 1965 NFL draft, but he couldn’t pan out with the NFC North franchise. However, everything changed when he joined the Cowboys.
After the Vikings traded him to Dallas, he became a key target on the Cowboys’ offense. He surpassed 900 receiving yards in each of his first three seasons with the Lone Star. He recorded 1,009 yards in 1968 and 960 in 1969. That year, he led the league with 12 touchdown receptions.
Lance Rentzel Starred In Controversies Off The Field

In 1970, police arrested Lance Rentzel for an indecent-exposure case involving a young girl. The incident meant the end of his tenure in Dallas. The Texas franchise sent him to the Los Angeles Rams, where he spent the next four seasons.
The NFL suspended him indefinitely for conduct detrimental to the league after being convicted of possession of marijuana.
The cause of death remains undisclosed at the time. He died in Alexandria, Virginia, joining several former Cowboys players who passed away this year.
