Concern spread quickly across Carolina Panthers training camp after Xavier Legette went down.

Legette was drafted 32nd overall in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft by the Carolina Panthers. His voice became an instant viral sensation due to his incredibly thick, distinct Pee Dee region Southern accent.

The Carolina Panthers traded up one spot with the Buffalo Bills to secure Legette as the final pick of the first round. General Manager Dan Morgan called Legette directly on draft night to ask if he was ready to become a Panther. Legette was visibly emotional during the call, admitting he had to hold back tears at his small family draft party in his hometown.

There is now real concern for his health.

The intense environment of NFL training camps often delivers devastating physical setbacks just as a new season begins. Most recently, the Carolina Panthers franchise experienced an absolute nightmare scenario involving dynamic young wide receiver Xavier Legette.

The highly promising pass-catcher suffered a terrifying injury during a highly competitive team practice session earlier this morning.

Legette elevated for a deep fade pass from quarterback Bryce Young in a seven-on-seven period. He came down awkwardly on his side and head. The play resulted in a touchdown catch, yet left the receiver on the ground.

Medical staff carefully checked his extremities as teammates gathered nearby in support. Meanwhile, Legette eventually rose under his own power and appeared alert. Additionally, the player was then placed on a cart and transported to the locker room for further evaluation.

He also had a concerning injury last year as well.

Recovery Outlook for Legette After Practice Scare

Head coach Dave Canales later confirmed the initial assessment after practice concluded. Consequently, the diagnosis centered on a stinger once concussion protocol had been successfully cleared.

The third-year wideout has drawn positive attention throughout camp. It came after adjusting his weight and focusing on durability following a challenging previous season. Therefore, the timing of this setback arrives just as his role gained added importance with another receiver sidelined for the year.

In the 2025 NFL regular season, Carolina Panthers wide receiver Xavier Legette played in 15 games, recording 35 receptions for 363 yards and 3 touchdowns.
